Creating Positive Environment

We are almost about to close one more year in the OCS journey. With new offices in Brazil & Nigeria, we are excited and hopeful to see new client logos in our marketing material soon. All possible efforts are underway to make this happen. Each business vertical is giving its best and trying to achieve 2019 target. Let’s hope we achieve our targets, learn our lessons and implement them going forward. Expectations from 2020 are extraordinary and I am sure we, as a team, will deliver them skillfully.

In the last newsletter of this year, let me speak about something that is very close to my heart – Organisation values, Employee productivity, Culture and Promoters’ expectations.

I was reading few articles on these foundation blocks. Many companies bet on having a cut-throat and high-pressure culture to drive their financial success. Many researchers have proved that cut-throat environment is harmful to the productivity over time. Positive and empowered environment leads to dramatic benefits for employers, employees and the bottom line. Stress and pressure push employees to perform more, better and faster, but what cut-throat organizations fail to recognize is the long-term negative impact on the health of the organization and employees. I personally have strong belief in the positive environment. How difficult is it to care for and maintain responsibility for colleagues as friends? Is it really difficult to avoid blames and forgive mistakes as long as they are not intentional or repeat in nature? Is it so difficult to treat one another with respect, gratitude, trust and integrity? Why is it so difficult to encourage people to talk about their problems? A culture of safety in which everyone is inclusive, humble and encourage to speak up or ask for help, leads to better learning and performance outcomes. Employees in the offices and our teams working in the hazardous environments on 24 X 7 basis are the only ‘Assets’ we have. In my view, belongingness to the organization and high productivity are the only tools that help us deliver expectations.

I am sure you would agree that we work for our families. If culture does not allow employees to spend quality time with the families, how belongingness will develop between employee – employer? There is a huge difference between ‘being working’ and ‘being productive’. Positivity and productivity shape up the organization, create healthy relations and support in meeting up the tough targets. A positive workplace is more successful over time because it increases positive emotions and well-being. When organization develops positive culture, it achieves significantly higher levels of organizational effectiveness — including financial performance, customer satisfaction, productivity and employee engagement. Culture is one of the most important things of the company, it’s who we are, it’s why customers choose us. The goal of employee engagement is to drive employee attitudes, behavior, morality and ethics in such a way as to improve their productivity, morale, satisfaction and usefulness within the organization. Can we convert our employee engagement sessions to deliver these objectives? In the closing note, let me talk about Promoters’ expectations. To keep it simple so that we all can connect – what do we expect when we invest our hard-earned money in Provident Funds, Mutual Funds, Equities, Gold, Properties? How do we want our families – spouses and children to handle our hard-earned money? How do we plan our expenditures based on our earnings? It’s no different. Business is about return on investments. We are fortunate to have Promoters who genuinely want to provide a platform for employees to develop, be creative, explore potential, feel happy and generate value to the business.

No doubt that we are good. Delivering business for more than three decades in the dynamic environment is not a joke. Moving up the value chain requires us to move from ‘good to great’ and this journey is exciting. I am sure we will deliver this journey happily without compromising health. In the closing statement, I sincerely request you to share your views on these building blocks. Wishing you again a very happy and prosperous new year.
